Makeup Trends Interview

Two women have a conversation in a salon. Text reads “AI is impacting the industry.” Mood is professional.

Back in January I was asked to do my first interview for anyone. I had the privelage to be asked by Alexandria Rossetti, a student at Sheridan College Oakville. More often than not, as a hair and makeup artisit we are hearing about the people sitting in our chair about pretty much anything and everything. To have the cameras turned on me felt- like a compliment to be honest. It was also nerve wrecking because it was being recorded. Not just for the students; but also for Vibe Productions and You Tube.

The entire time my head is going off with did I answer that right?

Am I sitting without my underwear exposed?

Will I upset people with this answer and if so that's okay, because I spoke my truth.

The fact of the matter is, putting yourself on camera is hard. The lights are in your eyes, they also get warm. I thought about how my voice sounds when its recorded. It never sounds how I think I hear myself! Plus I was battling a head cold.

I put my trust into my director/D.O.P, genious Apurav 'Ohpie' Maggu. I tried to do the best I could for Alexandria and her project partner. Both the girls fought some nerves of their own but overall they were fantastic interviewers.

Then came the several weeks of editing our copy of the interview to prepare it for YouTube. With the exception of some technical issues with sound it turned out fantastic. I looked fantastic, the rhythm of the video and examples given to support the content talked about in the interview came at all the right points. It was under 20 minutes, which is good because an interview that is too long loses viewers attention!
